Progress

This picture is of the first wine spilt in our house! I know, you are all amazed that it took THIS long before we spilt wine! But really this was also the first time we have ever drank wine in the new house.

The insulation is all in and it is getting warmer inside!
The cedar for all our trim has been stained; in this pic it is on the saw horses with a heater underneath trying to get it all dried before the drywall gets delivered THE NEXT DAY!

This was pretty cool to watch. We had some of the hard-to-reach placed spray-foam insulated. The guy was wearing a full suit, mast, and air supply (hooked up all the way back to his truck).

He created a 'clean room' (Dexter fans should get a kick out of this). So that the fumes and what not wouldn't kill everyone. They told us we would be fine unless we smelt it then it'd be too late.

Not sure if I have posted this picture before or not. This is our fireplace. We just got out gas metere hooked up today as well; so we will be able to turn this bad boy on!

Emint loves all the new things changing in the house all the time. The latest is a pile of drywall making a perfect dog stand infront of the big window.

Our siding started! That's all they got done but it should start going fast soon!

Drywall is almost all boarded - should be done by the end of today! Mudd and Tape will start first thing Monday morning!

And sure enough things go wrong! We have had two of our windows break so far! Of the double pain it is the inside one that split on both windows. It was cool because dad actually got to watch this one start and grow right infront of him. It is going to be covered under warrenty! But stil, it means just another thing to worry about. We just hope that this isn't some sign that we have a bad batch of windows overall and more are going to break!

Brr...

After a week of extremely cold weather (about -10 plus wind chill of -14) we had a weekend of above zero temperature. I spent all day installing the rest of the paving stone in the back yard. At then end of the day we were ready to call it quits and just go inside for supper but we decided to pull out the fire pit and set it up. We had a fire that night for the first time in our 'new' backyard! There are still a few holes in the patio to fill as we need dad's tile saw here to cut them.

The gutters are on the house. You can't really tell in the picture (took it at night) but they are black! Dad has been working on getting the decks up. Right now the front and back deck are framed. Instead of putting the decking on them right now we have ply-wood over them. This is to save the decking when the drywallers come and make a mess.

The house just got insulated yesturday! They came and put the batting up. They are coming with a different crew today to do some of the spray in insulation; and then another crew comes tomorrow to put up the vapor barrior. Once that is done our drywallers can start! We'll also be ready to get our siding going up here really soon. Dad brought home the first couple of trim pieces for our siding yesturday!

Outside of the world of my new house life here is going great. Dan is working five days a week right now which is a bit much especially coming off of his crazy schedule from harvest. We're hoping for a little down time here soon. My work is going great (love that place!) and school is the usual. I am in a high school art class just helping out and teaching once in a while; I love the kids and never thought an art class could be that fun (until this point I had only ever had my practicums and experience in English classes which to be honest is not the funnest class to attend 'just for fun').

Tin Bashers

Nothing much new to report. The "Tin Bashers" as dad affectionately calls them just finished up - they did the heating ducting. The plumbing rough in is only halfway done - they were here for a while then they stopped coming to go to another job and will be back later this week. Frustrating! They plumber is also the one who does the gas fitting - as soon as we can get him back here we will have the gas fireplace in the house for warmth. We were hoping to have this hooked up by Thanksgiving because we are setting up out supper in there.

The weather is turning for the worse here. It has been dropping down just below zero for a few hours over night and not even getting up to two digits during the day. They were threatening snow last night but fortunately it was an empty threat; however, they are at it again for Friday. Siding starts Monday (we hope) so that really had to get up to seal the house before we can insulated. Rained last night so we have great Saskatchewan clay to play in.

Our neighbour started digging his garage (the one we have our trailer on his yard) so the dogs now have an even larger mud hole to play in! *rolls eyes*. We'll hopefully get Sod on Friday and then we'll have the yard mostly covered in the back and the dogs won't need to go anywhere but on the nice clean grass... right?

Coffee time!

Worked like dogs today (well, no because the dogs slept in the sun all day... so we worked like workers today).

We have SOD! So we booked our sod a WEEK in advance; the morning we were to get it Dan went to pick it up. They somehow "lost" our paperwork. They had a little left over from another person's pallet so they gave us that. We were really upset - who decided the other person's order was more important than our order! So we have half a back yard of sod, the rest is still sand (great when the dogs run in and out of the trailer). The wooded off section on the right hand side will be a paving stone patio for our fire pit! We hopefully will be getting that this week!

After a bit of drinking last night dad and I got joking around about some of the lighting in the new house. He suggested a BIG chadalere over the stairs as a joke. I was like - not unless it was nice and open like Lougheed. That started a thought pattern. Why do we have a wall going all the way up the stairs breaking our second story hallway into a little maze! so the saws-all came out today and now it is nice and open. The beneffits of bottling wine and then drinking it all!

The plumbers are are done their rough in. They are now working on the heating! (not that we get a furnace any time soon). Our tubs are in (not hooked up or anything). We have cardboard ontop of them to keep people out!

Lastly, today, we took down the two fences in the front. They will not be going back up. We want to be open to the neighbours! The posts are still there as they are cemented three feet down. I heard talk of a 4x4 truck and some chain to help us remove them tomorrow!
